Well Water Systems - Green Water

acid in water green water

Some wells in the Santa Cruz Mountains have waters which are acidic in nature. This acidity is caused by an excessive amount of Carbon Dioxide. If left untreated, acidic waters can dissolve metallic plumbing. Copper pipe can be corroded by acid water causing a short working life of the plumbing. In such cases it will often show up as blue-green stains on the toilets, bathtubs and sinks. Left unchecked, this acidic water will eventually produce pin hole leaks in copper pipe. Although the new Pex plastic pipe is not affected by naturally acidic well water there is still a significant amount of metallic plumbing materials in a modern house plumbed with pex.
